Difference between elbow and bend
“All elbows are bends, but not all bends are elbows”.
Elbows and bends are both very common pipe fitting products used to change the direction of flow in a piping system.Sometimes they are interchangeable, but they are not the same.
Elbows are standard fittings but bends are custom made.Bends are generally made or fabricated as per the requirement.However,elbows are prefabricated and standard.
The main difference is the radius of curvature.Elbows generally have a radius of curvature between one to twice the diameter of the pipe.Bends have a radius of curvature more than twice the diameter.
Elbows have industrial standards and have limitations on size, bend radius and angle.The angles are usually 45 degrees or 90 degrees. All other offsets are classified as pipe bends.
