Prefabricated spool is a piping system that is prefabricated in a factory rather than manufactured on site. C&N’s prefabricated piping system helps to increase the efficiency of the installation process by reducing the need to assemble individual pipes and components on site. This reduces installation time and labour costs, while helping to reduce project errors.

Commonly used materials include carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel and other speciality metals, often with specific properties such as corrosion resistance and high temperature strength.

Types of Piping Fabrication

Piping fabrication is the process of making pipes and fittings to specific dimensions and standards. Various processes such as storing, handling, cutting, beveling, cleaning, assembling, welding, testing, inspecting, painting, insulating and installing pipe material are part of pipe fabrication. There are two ways to complete piping fabrication:

1. Shop Piping Fabrication

Fabrication is carried out in a factory or workshop where all the necessary equipment and skilled technicians are available. The fabrication process begins with the purchase of raw materials such as steel plates, pipes and fittings. These materials then go through the fitting and welding process. The finished spools of pipe are then heat treated, pressure tested and labelled before being transported to the site.

2. Field Piping Fabrication

Field pipework fabrication is the process of fabricating pipework at the final installation site. This is done using portable equipment and tools brought to the site. However, this process can be less efficient due to the uncertainty of working conditions, weather and available resources.

It is important to note that many projects may use a combination of workshop and field pipework fabrication.
